Dear Members of the Public,
On behalf of The Committee to Elect Daniel Gast, we respectfully request your vote for Daniel Gast in the upcoming election for District Court Judge. As you make your decision, we believe that Dan’s commitment to public service, fairness, and integrity will best serve the voters and residents of our community.
Qualifications of Daniel Gast
Daniel Gast is a highly qualified candidate with both judicial and military experience, making him uniquely suited to the role of District Court Judge. Dan currently serves as a judicial referee, where he has presided over juvenile, traffic, and small claims courts since 2021. He also hears other types of cases including child support enforcement, restraining orders, evictions, and child custody matters. His wide-ranging judicial experience has prepared him to handle a diverse docket with fairness and respect for all parties involved.
In addition to his legal career, Dan is a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, where he was trained in Arabic and earned the rank of Sergeant. His military service instilled in him the values of discipline, fairness, and commitment to public service—qualities that are essential for a judge. One of Dan’s key goals is to establish a Veterans Treatment Court in our district, addressing the unique challenges veterans face in the criminal justice system.
The recent State Bar Association of North Dakota survey, which assessed judicial applicants, provides a clear reflection of Dan’s qualifications and respect within the legal community. Dan outperformed his opponent in nearly every category.
Respect and Civility: Dan ranked 1st out of 13 candidates.
Open-mindedness and Deliberation: Dan ranked 1st out of 13 candidates.
Avoiding Impropriety: Dan ranked 1st out of 13 candidates.
Moral Character: Dan ranked 2nd out of 13 candidates.
These rankings speak to Dan’s professionalism, moral character, and his ability to treat all parties with the respect and fairness.
In addition to his professional qualifications, Dan Gast is deeply rooted in the Fargo community. Born and raised in Fargo, he graduated from high school locally and chose to raise his own family here. Dan is married to his wife, Carlye, and together they have five children. He has been actively involved in the community, serving as PTA president, Cub Scout den leader, Cubmaster, and committee chair, where he has dedicated time to supporting local families. Dan also volunteers his time each year as Santa for various non-profit organizations, bringing joy to children and families during the holiday season. His involvement extends to the local music scene, where he plays in the polka/rock band "The Meat Rabbits," further showcasing his dedication to community engagement. Currently, he serves on the Alliance for Children’s Justice Task Force, the Juvenile Policy Board, and the Caseflow Management Committee, all of which work to improve the justice system and better serve the children and families of North Dakota.
Conclusion
Given Daniel Gast’s extensive qualifications, his commitment to serving our community, and his alignment with the community’s values of fairness and accountability, we believe he is the candidate best suited to serve as District Court Judge. His experience, both in and out of the courtroom, his strong performance in the Bar Association survey, and his unwavering commitment to public service make him the ideal choice for this role.
We appreciate your time and consideration, and we hope that you will vote for Daniel Gast in this important election.
Sincerely,
The Committee to Elect Daniel Gast
